Congratulations to our James F. Byrnes High School Distinguished Teacher of Literacy for 2023, Mrs. Lea Elizabeth Harrison. Mrs Harrison teaches both English 3 and 4 Honors at BHS. She leads English activities in her classroom that are engaging to her students and relevant! She consistently goes above and beyond to create an English classroom where students can succeed. Mrs Harrison was surprised by the administrative team with a certificate and a beautiful fall mum, as she represented BHS in an interview for the district-level Teacher of Literacy yesterday, October 3. Congratulations, Mrs Harrison! We are so proud of you!!

Free Art Friday was BACK on Friday last week! Students and staff should be on the lookout throughout the day on the last Friday of every month this semester (after first period) for free art throughout the school. If you are new to free art, The Free Art Movement is an international movement where artists leave their art around public spaces for others to remove and keep. We have made some art clubs during flex for a variety of interested students of all levels to create some themed art every month to be placed around the school the last Friday of every month! The art will be 'hidden' throughout the school for staff and students to pick up, take with you and enjoy! If it's got a 'Free Art Friday' tag, it's YOURS! Each month the students will pick a theme to base their artwork. September's theme was favorite cartoon characters or superheroes and October's theme is fall-related. Follow last month's finds @byrneshighart on Instagram!
