Our PLTW Engineering Development & Design Honors class was invited to tour SEW Eurodrive yesterday! Students learned about different career paths that they could pursue through engineering at SEW, toured all three SEW facilities located in Lyman, and got to see the engineering principles they have learned about in class at work in the real world!
A BIG thank you to Jared Scott and his team at SEW for hosting our students and showing them the opportunities that are available to them at their facilities!

A group of James F. Byrnes High School Seniors with an Automotive, Mechanical or Business Information career goal attended the BMW Classic Scholars Open House at the BMW Technical Training Center (TTC) yesterday. Seniors learned how through local Technical Colleges, the BMW Scholars Program offers the opportunity to attend college full time while working part-time at BMW. BMW Scholars pursue an Automotive Manufacturing-related degree and a pathway to full-time employment with BMW.
Many thanks to faculty chaperones: Tasha Brockman, Kevin Wyatt and John Pachter.

American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. It is a participatory program where each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government.
Boys State has been a program of The American Legion since 1935 when it organized to counter the Fascist inspired Young Pioneer Camps. The program was the idea of two Illinois Legionnaires, Hayes Kennedy and Harold Card, who organized the first Boys State at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.
At American Legion Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.
High school juniors are selected by local American Legion Posts to attend the program. In most cases, expenses associated with attending this program are paid by a sponsoring American Legion Post, a local business or another community-based organization.
American Legion Boys State is currently conducted in 49 Departments of The American Legion. Hawaii does not conduct a program. As separate corporations, Boys States vary in content and method of procedure, but each and every Boys State adheres to the basic concept of the program - that of teaching government from the township to the state level.
The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a similar program for young ladies called Girls State. For online details visit https://palmettoboysstate.com/
All junior boys are encouraged to apply for Palmetto Boys State. Paper applications can be picked up outside Room 1017. The link to the printable application: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uWSye9AIt9zqoCom7nex9YsxxySYndz-/view?usp=sharing

The 78th annual session of the American Legion Auxiliary Palmetto Girls State is now accepting applications for delegate selection. Each year, ALA PGS is held to provide a unique forum for the state’s rising high school senior girls to learn about government and the political process. This year’s ALA PGS will be held on the campus of Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC, from Sunday, June 8, to Saturday, June 14. ALA PGS allows young women to expand their leadership skills and meet other outstanding young women from across the state. Some delegates even form lifelong bonds from their time at ALA PGS.
It is an honor to be selected as a delegate to American Legion Auxiliary Palmetto Girls State. The American Legion and its Auxiliary sponsor Boys and Girls State to educate our youth in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of American citizenship. State programs are held nationally, and alumni of these programs are known and recognized nationwide for their academic achievement and civic leadership. Many alumni of Palmetto Boys and Girls States have gone on to successfully run for local and state office in South Carolina. Colleges and universities also offer scholarships to Boys and Girls State alumni.
Applications are available now on Schoology and if a paper application is necessary, please email ALA PGS representative, Madison Carver at madison.carver@spart5.net.
Applications are due February 21st. If you have any questions about ALA PGS or the application process, please refer to the 2026 Schoology group post from Ms. Carver.
