Mrs. Howard’s students participated in a Wicked Hydra activity in preparation for reading “A Long Walk to Water.” This activity exposes students to concepts and excerpts from the novel that encourage them to make personal connections and pose important questions.

In recognition of National School Resource Officer Day, FCMS would love to send an enormous shout out to our very own, Officer Teresa Ferguson! Officer Ferguson’s #1 priority every day is the safety and welfare of every person in our building, and we love and respect her so much for that. Along with that, she understands that our students need someone who also cares beyond the mistakes that people sometimes make, and she is always available for guidance, practical advice, and a listening ear. She always conducts herself with incredible dignity, and she is fun-loving and so easy to enjoy. She is a treasured gift to our school, and today we want to say thank you, Officer Ferguson!

FCMS owes a huge debt of gratitude to Belinda Churchill, one of our mentors and partners! Today she provided our staff with a full Chick Fila breakfast, along with donuts, drinks, many other snacks. It was a delicious way for us to start our day, and we are all very grateful! #CougarsLEAD

The FCMS 8th grade basketball team is doing some amazing work this season! They are 13-1 and defeated Abner Creek last night to advance to the conference championship game. It is tomorrow at Fairforest against Dawkins. Best wishes to Coach Smith and the boys! 🏀🏀🏀

FCMS hosted its second annual Black History Month celebration today! We were graced with the gift of beautiful poetry and singing, and several incredible speakers. The keynote address was given by our own Dr. Dinetha Salmon, whose words penetrated every soul in attendance and elicited great adoration and reverence from our students. It was a morning that evoked powerful memories from the past, admiration for those of today, and great hope for tomorrow.

FCMS was incredibly honored to be visited by a number of distinguished graduates from the original Florence Chapel High School this morning during our Black History Month celebration! Their presence brought so much dignity and poignancy to our ceremony, and it was great for our students and staff to be together with them.

FCMS was super excited to have our own nurse, Dr. Susan Duggar, speak to our AVID and careers classes about nursing and the field of medicine today! It was great to have someone who is incredibly experienced and knowledgeable sharing with our people. Much appreciated, Dr. Duggar!

Congratulations to the Coach Ian Beckett and the FCMS 7th grade basketball team for the amazing season they had this year! Well done! 🏀🏀🏀

Mr. Ebaugh’s students dissected owl pellets, looking to discover what an owl pellet can tell us about an owl’s diet and how this information can be used to develop part of a food web. 🦉💩

FCMS is incredibly proud of Kellen Leverett! Kellen is an 8th grader who is playing on the Byrnes varsity basketball team this season. Currently they are a perfect 23-0 and ranked #1 in the state. 🏀🏀🏀

Mrs. Bryant’s students are setting ancient Egypt in her classroom! They have mummified carrots, written their names in hieroglyphics, and made a sarcophagus.

Congratulations to Jackson Lui on being selected for All State Orchestra! Jackson auditioned against a hundred violinists from all over the state and he was selected 10th out of the top 36! 🎻🎻🎻

As a part of National School Counselors Week, FCMS would love to send up a cheer to the three incredible guidance counselors we have, LaWanta White, Tammy Martin, and Chelsea Eubanks! These three pour so much into the well-being of our students. They work tirelessly to see that we are all cared for, advised, and prepared for whatever tomorrow holds. Thank you for what you do!

Congratulations to Carson Cagle and Claire Schaub, who recently performed in the SC ACDA Honor Choir! Both singers auditioned and were selected to perform in this prestigious choir. #CougarsLEAD

Super proud of FCMS Chorus! Seven of their members participated in Spartanburg Sings County Honor Choir this past weekend. They had a great time singing some difficult music with over 180 kids from Spartanburg County. #CougarsLEAD

Mrs. Howard’s students completed Personal Water Audits, detailing their daily water usage. They were shocked at the amount of virtual water we use. They also navigated stations that touched on emotional statistics resulting from Africa’s unequal water distribution. #CougarsLEAD

We had incredible student participation and energy during our winter sports pep rally yesterday! #CougarsLEAD

Mr. McDonald’s class took part in a gallery walk through the Louisiana Purchase! They looked at the roles played by Jefferson and Napoleon, the impact on Native American tribes, and the constitutionality of acquiring territory. Students created a map of the countries that controlled parts of North America, both before and after the event. Students were encouraged to evaluate the impact of the purchase as well. #CougarsLEAD

At the winter sports pep rally today, our students and staff competed in some entertaining contests of Knock Out and Hungry, Hungry Hippo!
