Hat Day Friday

This week Ms. Hewitt’s students worked collaboratively to grade TRFs of other students. A TRF is a Tutorial Request Form. Students fill them out on a topic they are struggling with or confused on. Great way to get students invested in their learning!

FCMS is so very pleased to announce that Terry Cullen has been chosen as the 2024 District Five Support Employee of the Year! Mr. Cullen has served as the security guard at FCMS for the past two years. He provides so much joy, acknowledgement, and safekeeping to our students and staff. It’s impossible to quantify his value to us. Mr. Cullen has lived a life of distinguished service, and he is incredibly deserving of all accolades. The FCMS community is thrilled about his continued recognition. We love you, Mr. Terry! Congratulations!

Wrestlers

The 8th grade honor choir did an incredible job at the concert performance assessment. They received a rating of Superior with Distinction! That means that all four judges gave them a superior rating. We are proud of you!

Rebel Royals

Ms. Edwards’ classes were visited by
Latoya Council, the Community Outreach Facilitator for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. It is one of the partner programs of SC Works. The classes participated in Career Explorations using the Oculus headsets.

Dr. Kirkland’s Flight & Space students learned about trajectory by creating pool noodle rockets

Ms. Dillingham’s classes had the SC Aquarium do a vitual program involving human impact on watersheds in SC. Students were presented with evidence on water quality and traced pollutants from the Upstate to the Low Country in order to determine how our waterways are polluted.

In recognition of National Assistant Principals Week, FCMS would like to give a big shout out George Austin, Ingrid Anderson, and John Walko. They are amazing servants to our school! We are grateful for each of you!

Spring Break is over and we are in full swing at FCMS!

The AVID program and Beta Club teamed up for a second annual Adopt-A-Road Cleanup on Friday. Thirty four AVID scholars and Beta students gathered 25 bags of trash and had a lot of fun making the community better! Thanks to Christy Hewitt, Officer Teresa Ferguson, and Stacey Parris for helping make this possible!

Ms. Edwards’ classes had several guests this week. Mrs Alena Dantzler is a High Risk Investigator for TD Bank. She manages accounts to see if crimes are being committed. She showed the students how to budget. Mrs. Nicollette is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or CRNA. Her job is to provide a plan for patients who are in pain, and her work saves lives. Mr. Ricco Booker works for Upstate Fatherhood Coalition, where he helps families. He also a coach, trainer, and motivational speaker. He shared with the students the importance of professional branding. FCMS is fortunate to have experts from our community pour into our students!

So who’s ready for Spring Break?

Dates to remember

March is Music in Our Schools Month, so we are taking some time to acknowledge and celebrate our talented students! It’s such a gift for these young people to be able to learn under the incredible music instructors we have. Likewise being able to learn the craft and performance of music is so valuable in providing a significant form of expression. Kudos to our music teachers and students!

Congratulations to Matthew Price, Grayson Crutchlow, and Madison Clark for earning a spot in the SC All-State Band. They represent the only 4% of students in the state who auditioned and earned a placement in the band! Also our esteemed FCMS band director Mrs. Crutchlow won the 2024 Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Bandmaster Award. This award is given annually to one band director in the state to recognize outstanding work and contributions! Well done! 🎼🎺🎷

In the 3rd quarter house competition, Luonne and Ma'at came in 2nd and 3rd place. They got additional recess time with free Kona Ice on Monday as a hard-earned reward! Congratulations to these houses!

Capi won the house competition for the 3rd quarter and has a blast at The Big E today!
